Gloria’s fun summer layout is simply bursting with color! She created the graphic background from wedges of colorful pattern papers that she stitched around the edges to design a vibrant circle on her pink base. Notice how most of the embellishments match the color they are on, this ties it together perfectly. Learn more at the Simple Stories blog.

For years now we’ve had pie chart shaped and star burst trends as backgrounds for our scrapbook layouts and now I’m seeing a similar but slightly different trend I’m calling a Color Wheel (if there’s another name please let me know). It’s still usually round with wedges or sections that fill up a background with lots of color and pattern but it’s a bit more graphic, very colorful, artsy and funky at times and reminds me of an artists color wheel. Check out these examples in todays post and you’ll see what I mean and maybe you’ll be inspired to jump on this newest scrapbook trend.

Wendy’s circle is also stitched between the sections of pattern paper that make up her wheel but she’s taken the design further by pulling out the colors past the circle onto the white background using heart shapes. I love how some hearts are sewn in different ways and some have tiny words added too! I spotted her page on the Pretty Little Studio Instagram page.

Paige cut her shape from the teal base paper and placed photos and pattern paper behind each open section. Each one has small accents like buttons and chipboard flowers, her title is in the center with journaling curved around the inside edges for a very sweet design. Instead of wedges Anke used strips of paper with fun border punched edges to fill her wheel with color and texture. She also used die cut flowers and butterflies next to their same colors as the strips to pull that out into the background. There’s also fun stitching and a large title as well. Kat’s design is very cool and artistic with busy pattern papers, hand written journaling, clear word stickers, tabs, labels and lots of sentiments. There’s so much movement and color but it’s not over whelming because she used nice spacing, kept the photos black and white and stuck within a color scheme. I came across her idea on the Paper Issues Instagram page.

Jana created a fun and whimsical page using a fussy cut puzzle circle as part of the embellishment on her background, working it in with a wide border, a journaling card, tag, word bubbles and smaller accents. Again the photos are black and white which usually works better with lots of color and pattern. She breaks it all down at the Jana Eubank blog.

Here’s another wheel that uses photos instead of paper and it’s a unique way to get lots of photos of different sizes on a single layout. Paije used a template for her shapes with cloud paper on a kraft cardstock base with the large postcard in the center for a title. Take a closer peek at the Mosaic Moments blog.

Rachel’s design has lots of tiny color wheels all over 3/4 of the layout with a row of stacked sentiment off to the side. For her circles she’s cut wedges and popped many of them up for some dimension as well as adding some faux buttons and using small round photos in place of some circles in the grid. This lovely layout has half of a color wheel on one side with butterflies fluttering away. A notebook edge border goes down the center with a place on the other half for a photo with pretty flowers and the title. Using just part of a colorful circle makes the design even more special and unique. This is part of a class at Scrapbook.com from Vickie Boutin.

Ashley’s sweet page uses more muted tones with pops of red, perfect for a Father Daughter design. She used a digital die cut for the circle, cutting it from pattern papers and adding a little stitching. I like how she layered another smaller wheel over top, it adds dimension and even more space for patterns. Find more details at the Get It Scrapped blog.
